Q: Do I need a POS system in my restaurant? A: A POS (Point of Sale) system has many benefits including capturing lost sales, minimizing shrinkage/pilferage and providing excellent reporting capabilities but the single most important benefit is better customer service. Your servers spend at least 50% more of the time on the service floor - keeping them closer to the customer and serving them quicker. For these reasons, a POS is something you should investigate and working with a competent vendor, like RSS, define your POS needs. Q: Isn't a POS system expensive? How can I afford to get one? A: A POS system, like any tool has a cost to acquire. Try not to focus on the monthly cost - looking at cost instead of cost versus savings is the mistake most people make. The return on investment for a modern POS is high, especially if you don't already have a system, and factoring in the savings in shrinkage, lost sales and increased table turns most restaurants find they are ahead at the end of the month, even with the POS payment. Q: I'm not sure my employees can learn how to use it, plus I am not really great with computers. How can I use a tool I know little about? A: First, RSS is a full service reseller who provides a turnkey system that includes: system programming, installation, training and support. Servers are usually trained in a few minutes - its interface is clean, neat and highly intuitive. Managers and owners are trained in greater depth because they must open/close, do menu updates and authorize voids and price changes etc. Because the system comes fully programmed and tested, because one of our staff members is on-site when you go live and because you have our support team to call if you have a question, there is rarely a time when you are unable to do something that you need to do.
